A Croatian university has begun a name-and-shame campaign to help combat cheating.
Students caught cheating in exams at Zagreb University's electrical engineering and computing faculty will be publicly embarrassed by having their names put on noticeboards and published on the university website following a decision by university heads.
Vedran Mornar, Zagreb's vice-dean, said that the campaign was a way of protecting the honest majority of undergraduates. He said: "Some students may think this isn't fair, but we want to show that cheating isn't fair."
Three students have already been shamed, with their names and the specifics of their cheating published, although the information was removed after a week.
Some students have complained about the campaign. Applied physics student Goran Mihaljevic said: "People cheat for different reasons and they should not all be lumped together. More tutorial support should be given to ensure that students do not have to resort to other means to pass their exams."
