The Student Loans Company has hit on a new revenue stream. A student who accidentally repaid the company more than the value of her loan was told that the company was "not sure it's possible" to issue a refund. The balance was just 12p - but consider the possibilities. On a rough calculation, if the SLC took an extra 12p from each student it dealt with, it could have made £360,000 by now.
