Suspended Glasgow fine arts head resigns

Pavel Buchler, head of the fine art department at Glasgow School of Art's, left the college this week following a series of disciplinary hearings.

A joint statement signed by Mr Buchler and the school's director Dugald Cameron said he had "terminated his employment" by mutual agreement.

The move follows a meeting of the board of governors' disciplinary appeals committee last week.

"Both parties have taken this step to resolve remaining differences and avoid future confrontation. In all of this, the best interests of the school, its staff and students have been uppermost," the statement said.

"This matter is now closed. Both parties have mutually agreed that there will be no further public discussion on the matter."

Mr Buchler was suspended for seven weeks on full pay at the end of last session on two charges of alleged verbal abuse of staff.

The suspension was then lifted, although Mr Buchler still faced disciplinary hearings.

A college spokesman refused to comment on what the hearings would consider, although it is understood that the alleged verbal abuse was not the only issue involved.
