Health secretary Virginia Bottomley last week told psychiatrists that they would "be surprised how many people with psychotic symptoms come to see their MPs". Years ago she was pestered by a constituent who refused to go to his doctor instead. "Eventually I said that if any more people from his street came to see me who had laser beams coming through their walls I'd take it up with the minister."
