Strikers' docked pay goes to the hard-up

三月 3, 2000

The Pounds 12,500 deducted from the salaries of lecturers at Bradford University after last year's one-day strike by the Association of University Teachers, has been put into a "last-resort" student hardship fund. Another Pounds 12,500 will be used to improve teaching areas around campus.

Approximately 15 per cent of the institutions that took part in the strike have set up similar funds. Staff who did not join the strike, including Bradford's vice-chancellor Colin Bell, were encouraged to donate a day's pay. The fund will be available to students ineligible for help elsewhere.
