Still Germaine

十月 18, 2002

Fears that feminist icon Germaine Greer had been dumped as a candidate for rector of St Andrews University have proved unfounded. She was merely a victim of student dilatoriness.

She was nominated just in time for last Friday's deadline, along with former Liberal MP Sir Clement Freud and Barry Joss, who has given up his status as a postgraduate student to stand. Chris Woodhead, former chief inspector of schools in England, has withdrawn because of family illness. The three candidates for the student-elected post will meet on the hustings next Wednesday, with the polls closing at 6pm next Friday.

Student president Rory O'Hare said that as an election official he must remain neutral but that any one of the candidates would do "a fantastic job".
