State school pupils still not making Cambridge

Initiatives to attract more state school applicants to Cambridge University have failed to make any impact on the proportion of accepted applicants, new figures show. Applications and acceptance figures for students beginning courses in October 1998 show that 46 per cent of entrants came from state schools, while 45 per cent came from the independent sector - almost no change from the previous three years.
