Star in a remake of The Graduate

Bored by the thought of Mission: Impossible 3 ? Can't bear to see The Da Vinci Code ? Then how about Oxford University's DVD of its degree ceremony on May 6 at 4.30pm?

Oxford has just launched a website selling videos and DVDs of graduation ceremonies dating back to November 1989. It is charging £25 for videos of a total of 348 graduations and £28 for DVDs of 69 ceremonies from 11.30am on September 29, 2000, onwards.

Until now, the recordings were available through departments, but can now be purchased online through the one-stop shop of the university's showcase public affairs website, www.ox.ac.uk/publicaffairs/mpu/degree.shtml .

The university says that the recordings are not personalised, and simply feature general filming of the graduation ceremony.

But Charlie Beesley, film and television co-ordinator at the media production unit, says: "We try to catch every student. The students are the stars."

The graduation ceremonies may not have changed over the years, but the cameras are now a third of the size and weight and a tenth of the price, Mr Beesley said.

He anticipates that within a few years, the university will be using "solid state" cameras that record straight to a giant chip.

And the media production unit could also provide help to amateurs who want their own record of the big day. Its staff offer tuition and guidance to those who want to edit their own video footage, and can also provide professional digital editing, including voice-over facilities.
