A study into whether dementia patients and their carers benefit from producing a "narrative or therapeutic story" of their experiences has been awarded funding. Susan Benbow and Paul Kingston, professors in the Centre for Ageing and Mental Health at Staffordshire University, have won a £33,000 grant from the British Medical Association. Their aim is to see if the stories highlight extra practical or emotional support that is needed. Professor Benbow said: "It's about getting people to open up about their journey with dementia. People may choose to write their story or opt to be interviewed for audio or videotapes, which will be transcribed and presented back to them."
