Staffordshire keen to track human face of security

十月 27, 2006

Computer scientists with a good grasp of human nature are being sought by Staffordshire University for a new post in computer security and forensic computing.

The job, which could be at either lecturer or senior lecturer level, is one of six advertised this week under the computer science and entertainment technology strand of Staffordshire's computing, engineering and technology faculty.

The posts are in addition to the faculty's existing 146 full-time staff.

Liz Thursfield, faculty director for recruitment and marketing, said computing security was an increasingly important strand of education as businesses began to appreciate the need for such expertise. Staffordshire is also in discussions with police forces about running training courses.

Computer security specialists needed better skills than hackers and had to be able to gather and present evidence, Ms Thursfield said. "It's a really interesting mix of the people side as well as the computing side," she added.

Staffordshire is also advertising posts in games design and programming and in film and music technology.

Ms Thursfield said it was keen to see applicants with industrial experience as well as academic excellence. "We really do like someone who is willing to engage in enterprise activity with local businesses. And we want people who will be passionate about the students and learning," she said.
