Staff governors must have wider vision

Staff representatives on college governing bodies must resist pressure to represent the exclusive interests of staff, college funding chief David Melville said this week.

Professor Melville, speaking at a conference for staff governors organised by lecturers' union Natfhe, said: "A staff governor cannot be bound by mandates given by the staff but must take a view on the merits of any decisions that come before the governing body."
