Warwick University is seeking to axe 17 out of 60 jobs in its institute of education to deal with a predicted drop in applications for its four-year teacher training degree.
Registrar Jonathan Nicholls said the university hoped that staff would accept early retirement and voluntary redundancy deals.
Graduates enrolling on the one-year postgraduate certificate in education will receive a Pounds 6,000 bursary from September. As a result, enrolment on Warwick's four-year teacher training course is expected to fall. The institute is re-organising itself to teach more PGCE students and will create six new posts in the process.
