UK/SA Science and Technology Research Fund - call for proposals.
The purpose of the Research Fund is to support projects of scientific excellence, thereby fostering closer scientific links between the UK and the Republic of South Africa, and contributing to the future scientific and socio-economic development of both countries. Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
This program fosters the training of qualified young immunologists at leading universities and research centres around the world. Fellowships are awarded for a period of two years but can be extended to a third if the fellow has demonstrated substantial research progress. INTAS, the International Association for the promotion of co-operation with scientists from the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union, calls for the submission of proposals for Joint Research Projects and Networks, jointly performed by research teams from the members of INTAS and the NIS.The scientific fields covered by Call 1999 are all exact and natural sciences, economics, human and social sciences. INTAS Open Call 99: indicative budget 13.1 million Euro for proposals in all scientific fields; INTAS-CERN Call 99: indicative budget 1.0 million Euro for proposals related to the physics and engineering of the Large Hadron Collider; INTAS-Airbus Industrie Call 99: indicative budget 0.9 million Euro for proposals related mainly to mechanics, aircraft structures and aerodynamics; INTAS-ESA Call 99: indicative budget 1.2 million Euro for proposals related mainly to satellite communications and navigation, earth observation and earth science, space sciences, microgravity, satellite technologies, launchers and satellite control. Operating a powerful source of light in the X-ray range, the ESRF is a large experimental facility for basic and applied research in physics, chemistry, materials and life sciences. Proposal deadline: September 1, 1999 for beam time between February and July 2000. Beam time is allocated on the basis of scientific merit, following the recommendations of the Review Committees, and provided the experiment proposed meets technical feasibility and safety requirements. Short-Term Fellowship Program In Molecular And Cell Biology

The UNESCO-MCBN Short-Term Fellowship Program in Molecular and Cell Biology which aims at promoting international co-operation and developing regional and national infrastructures in Molecular and Cell Biology, is designed to stimulate and facilitate research and training. It will enable scientists, from developing countries, to carry out research and to learn techniques not otherwise accessible to them in the Network Centres. Fellowships to carry out research in developing countries will also be awarded. Refer to the website for eligibility criteria. A fellowship will be awarded to scientists wishing to spend 1-3 months in a scientific laboratory abroad. It will consist of a lump sum designed to either partially or fully cover an economic air/railway ticket; a modest monthly subsistence allowance; or both. This lump sum will not exceed US$ 4,000. NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH
The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) seeks applications that focus on disease prevention or the promotion of healthy behaviours based on contemporary scientific knowledge. Of particular interest are projects that explore new and innovative approaches to health communication and dissemination in areas of public health emerging from research in hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech or language.
