EPPLEY FOUNDATION Support for advanced scientific research The Eppley Foundation supports only post-doctoral work in the physical and biological sciences. Social sciences, computer science and educational programmes are not within the purview of the Foundation. Further, under most circumstances, the Foundation will not support DNA research, heart, HIV or cancer research, or other areas where there is considerable existent funding from conventional sources. Proposals from newly awarded PhDs or MDs rarely meet the Foundation's standards for advanced research, and such candidates should be advised that support from the Eppley Foundation is unlikely. Grant proposals from foreign countries are considered only when such applicants are associated with a United States institution which will administer the grant on their behalf. FIGHT FOR SIGHT www.fightforsight.org Applications are invited for the following awards: Research Fellowship Applications are invited from post doctoral scientists for a two- or three-year Fellowship to cover salary, consumables and travel expenses. Applicants must be aged under 35. Applications are sought jointly from the candidate and their proposed host.
Project Grants Applications are invited from researchers holding posts in academic departments who wish to undertake projects of up to three years' duration. The maximum awarded to fund any single project will be in the region of Pounds 100,000 over the duration of the project. GETTY RESEARCH INSTITUTE www.getty.edu/grant/research2000 Postdoctoral Fellowships These provide support for outstanding scholars in the early stages of their careers to pursue interpretive research projects on topics that make a substantial and original contribution to the understanding of art and its history. The 2000/2001 Postdoctoral Fellowships are reserved for scholars of all nationalities whose doctoral degrees in art history have been or will be officially conferred between January 1, 1994, and January 1, 2000. CARNEGIE TRUST FOR THE UNIVERSITIES OF SCOTLAND www.geo.ed.ac.uk/ carnegie/research.html Research Grants Maximum value Pounds 2000, for personal research, personally conducted. Most awards are for visits to field study areas, archives, libraries or to laboratories for collaborative work. The great bulk of funds is used for travel and subsistence. Maximum period for maintenance is three months. Grants are open only to graduates and full-time members of staff of Scottish universities; grants are not, even for these categories, normally given to recent graduates, but exceptions are those on university studentships or self-funded postgraduates and even these will get only partial funding.
University staff funded by other bodies such as research councils are not normally eligible. Further information on the website. ROYAL COLLEGE OF OBSTETRICIANS AND GYNAECOLOGISTS Menopause Travel Awards 1999 It is intended that the awards will advance interest and awareness of all aspects of the menopause and its treatment. The purpose of the awards is to offer those with a special interest in the menopause opportunities to attend symposia or postgraduate meetings in the UK, Ireland and overseas, and to visit institutions to study advances in clinical practice. Applications may be made for travel, accommodation and registration fees. The awards are available for Fellows and Members of the College, those in training for the MRCOG and clinical assistants with a special interest in the menopause. LEVERHULME TRUST www.leverhulme.org.uk Research Fellowships and Grants Aim: to support experienced researchers, particularly those who are or have been prevented by routine duties from completing a programme of original research. Approximately 120 awards offered annually. Grants provide research expenses over and above normal living costs; Fellowships provide a contribution towards replacement teaching costs (normally on an hourly-paid ad hoc basis) or loss of earnings plus research expenses, if required.

ENGINEERING AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES RESEARCH COUNCIL www.epsrc.ac.uk Processing of Functional Materials - second call for proposals.
Proposals are invited which aim to advance the understanding of materials, process control and design factors controlling processing of functional materials, enabling and producing improvements to those processes to the ultimate competitive advantage of the UK. It is intended that all projects funded by the programme will have collaboration with, and input from industry (either cash or in-kind).
