National Lottery cash will be channelled into education and science, culture secretary Chris Smith said this week. Launching the white paper, The People's Lottery, he said a New Opportunities Fund for education, health and the environment would be established. Among its first projects will be training 500,000 teachers and some 10,000 librarians in information and communications technology. A National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) will also be set up to foster talent in multimedia work and areas where the arts and science and technology meet.
