Scottish higher education naturally takes careful note of every word uttered by John Sizer, chief executive of the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council. But what he says may soon affect the whole nation.
The Association of University Teachers Scotland was particularly struck by one colourful phrase Professor Sizer used when he warned its council against redundancies. Indeed, AUT assistant secretary David Bleiman, writing to thank Professor Sizer for his contribution, confides: "For many years, AUT has been looking for a suitable slogan to match our famous 'Rectify the anomaly'. I think at last you have provided the slogan which I can envisage on our placards in the coming months and years: 'Migration strategies may be dysfunctional'."
