Ten Sheffield students have been taken to hospital and 90 others immunised with the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine after an outbreak of mumps in the city. GPs in Sheffield have reported a huge increase in the number of cases among students since late January. About 100 students have been diagnosed with the disease, with the most severe cases requiring hospital treatment. Students aged 18 to 25 at Sheffield Hallam and Sheffield universities are being advised to have the MMR vaccination at special sessions.
