Self-improvers get on the web

Dundee University students are being encouraged to use the web to sharpen their skills for study and work.

A new university intranet website, Advance@ Dundee, aims to provide multidisciplinary support with students free to browse the site independently or access specific pages on their tutors' advice.

Jonathan Weyers, director of Dundee's life sciences teaching unit and one of the staff behind the development, said: "Although you can't easily teach skills, our research suggests that guidance of this kind will benefit students and lecturers greatly."

Mr Weyers and Kathleen McMillan of the centre for applied language studies are preparing pilot articles on effective writing.
