What's worse than sitting one lot of law exams? More than 50 third-year students taking a Glasgow Caledonian University degree in law with administrative studies degree have had to sit their end-of-year exam for the second time in ten days after it was discovered that first time round they had been given last year's paper. The university has apologised unreservedly to the students for the "highly regrettable incident".

But in a bold attempt to convince them it is all for the best, it insists that standards are critically important to the university "and it is very much in the students' interests that the standard of their qualification cannot be questioned". The same applies, we hope, to its own standards of administrative skill.
