Sectarian tension prompts second review

* Glasgow University's education faculty has bowed to a demand for a second review by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council after a confidential first review revealed it was beset by denominational tensions.

The faculty was formed by a merger between the university and St Andrew's College of Education, Scotland's only Catholic teacher-training college.

Shefc said that Glasgow underestimated the difficulty of merging with "a distinct institution with its own particular culture". It wanted to see better management of the merger, more communication and consultation, and an improved working relationship with the Board of Catholic Education.
