Second international symposium on building pathology, Lisbon

Brussels, 05 Dec 2002

The international council for research and innovation in building and construction (CIB) is hosting its second international symposium on building pathology in Lisbon from 6 to 8 November 2003.

Far from declining, both the frequency and severity of building failures are on the increase. Buildings, building systems and facilities are more sophisticated, new materials and techniques are constantly introduced and construction times are cut ever shorter.

The CIBs W086 building pathology symposium brings together researchers and practitioners from over twenty countries with expertise in the fields of building failures, their causes, their investigation, and possible remedial actions.

The event will seek to study and learn from the mistakes of previous failed buildings, and transfer knowledge from researchers to practitioners. An open forum will be provided for stakeholders such as the construction industry, building products manufacturers, inspection bodies, insurance companies and architects to discuss problems and how to avoid them in the future.

The event is open to all professionals involved in the building industry, as well as managers and users of buildings who wish to learn more about the factors that contribute to durability.

The official languages of the symposium will be Portuguese and English, and simultaneous translation will be provided.
