Scottish unions agree on parliament's role

Scotland's leading higher education unions avoided a damaging split at the Scottish Trades Union Congress, reaching agreement on joint support for a motion on the Scottish Parliament's role in education. The Association of University Teachers Scotland withdrew one amendment to the Educational Institute of Scotland's motion, while the EIS accepted an AUTS amendment calling for the parliament to consult unions over collective bargaining. The STUC general council decided to remit a motion from the AUTS calling for Scottish Office project funding to be allocated through a Scottish research council.
