Scottish contracts strikes end after talks

The Educational Institute of Scotland this week suspended its strike action in Scotland's new university sector following an agreement to hold talks with management through the auspices of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service.

The EIS launched a series of strikes three weeks ago in protest against the introduction of new contracts for new staff. The management body, the Conference of Scottish Centrally Funded Colleges, said staff were striking because of misconceptions about the "normal, university-style contract".
