Scots teach prudence in use of antibiotics

Scotland's five medical schools are launching a £100,000 scheme, funded by the Scottish Executive, to educate tomorrow's doctors to be prudent prescribers of antibiotics.

Scottish health minister Malcolm Chisholm said excessive use of antibiotics led to the development of drug-resistant bacteria, making infections more difficult to treat.
