Scots institute staff strike for colleague

* Members of the Educational Institute of Scotland at Motherwell College this week staged a one-day strike in support of branch convenor Douglas Nicol, who they claim has been victimised by management.

The union claims the college has exceeded its disciplinary procedures by demoting Mr Nicol from senior lecturer to lecturer after he allegedly disobeyed an instruction to split a class.

College principal Richard Millham said: "The person involved has been disciplined as a member of staff, and any claims of victimisation regarding their connection to the EIS are categorically untrue."
