Schools offered Pounds 60m to improve standards

Teachers and their schools are being offered Pounds 60 million to help them improve their performance next year. The bonus scheme, announced this week by prime minister Tony Blair and education secretary David Blunkett, will be offered annually to those schools that top the league tables and to failing schools that have shown great improvement.
