Schoolboy starts chaos

Lewisham College in London has come under attack from cyberspace. Shortly after the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, principal Ruth Silver was contacted by the FBI because a schoolboy visiting the college had posted hate mail on a website set up to offer messages of sympathy and support.

Since then, the college's website has been hacked and its students and staff bombarded with junk email. Consultants have been called in but are unsure whether they are looking for a person angry at the original message or someone who objects to its removal.

Meanwhile, the college, which prides itself on values such as respect and tolerance, is finding that life is never simple.
