Salford aids pop hopefuls

Salford University musicians have launched a website on which they can showcase their work to record company talent-spotters.

The site aims to meet a growing demand from commercial operators for easier access to new bands and solo artists.

The site, run by the university's International Media Centre, will also help overcome the geographical barrier that can leave Manchester-based bands struggling to find an opening in the London-focused industry.

It hosts a range of sound clips produced by students and includes artist biographies, news, listings and video clips of bands from Salford's School of Media, Music and Performance.

The website, at www. Freeflowuk.com, has already attracted interest.

Phil Saxe, ex-manager of the Manchester band Happy Mondays, said: "The Freeflowuk initiative will give record companies easier access to untapped talent and will also be invaluable to the musicians themselves."
