A London university has received Fairtrade status in recognition of its commitment to social justice. Roehampton University had to provide evidence to the Fairtrade Foundation that it met five goals: the development of Fairtrade policies; the creation of a Fairtrade steering group; a commitment to sell Fairtrade products in all catering and other outlets; a commitment to use Fairtrade products at internal meetings and events; and a commitment to campaign for the increased consumption of Fairtrade products. Peter Briggs, chair of the Roehampton University environmental forum, said: "As social justice and human rights lie at the heart of the university's ethos, it is fitting that we are now recognised."
