A rock band featuring a business school lecturer has released a widely acclaimed debut album.

The Eruptors' Bad Time to Be Having a Good Time features Alex Gillett, a part-time lecturer at the University of Teesside, on guitar. The album has a sci-fi theme based on a war in space that damages the solar system, leaving survivors struggling in a post-apocalyptic environment. Kerrang! magazine has described it as "a turbo-injected, ozone-burning blast of garage rock".

Mr Gillett, who is 30, is completing a business PhD, and he has been using his expertise to help promote the band.

"Teesside Business School has always been supportive and enabled me to pursue my music career around the work that I do here," he said. "I've been able to use and develop the knowledge I've gained from my studies. Now that I lecture, I am able to give a bit back as I have used some of my experiences in the music business and examples in lectures."
