The University of North London has stabilised its rapidly developing network and made significant cost savings with a new management system. The growth of computer-based training as an important component of most students' studies prompted the university recently to create a number of learning centres to help students with the choice and use of available resources.

The IT-based learning facilities house some of the university's 3,000 PCs. Many of the 14,000 students use them to access the applications that form a part of their studies and will soon be the basis of entire modules of some courses. The growing communications system is now fully managed by Network Health LAN/WAN software from Concord Communications. David Bell, the university's infrastructure manager, said his technical team could ensure uninterrupted network stability and service support.
