Brussels, Jan 2003

The Norwegian mission to Europe is organising a research and information technology (IT) forum in Brussels on 31 January.

The aim of the event is to provide different perspectives on how IT and research can help fuel European competitiveness. The forum will also take a closer look at the key areas of eEurope 2005 and discuss the challenges of establishing initiatives to achieve the goals of such an action plan.

Parallel sessions are also scheduled for the afternoon, covering the following topics:

- Nordic Research Area as facilitator for eHealth in Europe;
- eSecurity;
- European Research Area (ERA) actors: Priorities and need for partners in building information society technology initiatives in ERA.

The forum will conclude with a panel discussion on the possible impact of IT as a driver for economic expansion, with a special focus on the role of the public sector and politics.

Among the speakers participating will be representatives from the European Commission, the Norwegian government and the IT industry.
