Cambridge dons are polarised as never before - over bicycle racks. Historians have mounted a call to arms against umbrella-like racks installed at the school of divinity's new building opposite their Sidgwick site.
The racks, topped by pastel-coloured canopies and stark electric lighting, have been designed to maximise space, so cycles are hung on hooks. Historians attacked them on aesthetic grounds, describing them as unsightly "meat hooks", like something "out of Monty Python", and on equality grounds - the hooks are 6ft high.
