Queen's University Belfast - New musical bearings are a hit

一月 29, 2009

PhD student Peter Bennett has attracted more than a million YouTube viewers to footage of a musical instrument he has invented. His creation, BeatBearing, uses ball bearings to create different drum patterns. "It started out as a weekend project when one of my colleagues left ball bearings lying around the lab, and I wondered how you could make music with them," said Mr Bennett, who is studying at the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen's University Belfast. He has been bombarded with offers to buy the instrument, but instead of selling he has written a step-by-step guide to building a BeatBearing, to be published shortly.
