More children must take part in drugs trials to ensure new medicines are safe, a study at Queen's University Belfast claims. Research showed many people in Northern Ireland do not know that the medicines they give to their children are being used outside their licences. James McElnay, pro vice-chancellor for research and postgraduates, said: "There is a lack of medicines available for children that have undergone testing procedures. This puts them at a disadvantage when compared with adults. There is a need for more clinical trials in children so that more medicines are available."
