He is reported on the college's website as saying: "For too long, we have been misled by the idea of the level playing field. But I ask you: did the Thunderbirds take off from a level playing field or a slanted launch pad?
"For too long we have degraded our world-class universities by allowing other universities to compete with them for scarce resources. This has simply diverted resources from our world-class universities to other universities where world-class things are done. But no longer. The binary divide is back. And I say this to you: you can't have someones without some zeros."
