Brussels, 15 May 2002

Three EU-funded projects that demonstrate the role of research in improving the protection of Europe's cultural heritage will be presented to the media at a press conference in Krakow, Poland, on 16 May.

The media event, to be held in conjunction with the fifth European Commission research conference on cultural heritage, which runs from 16 to 18 May, will also examine the role of Eastern European expertise in this field.

Three EU-funded research projects on cultural heritage, in which scientists and stakeholders from EU candidate countries participated, will be presented at the press conference.

These include the ENVIART project on the conservation of imitation Baroque marbles, the LIDO project on the protection of photographs and paper from light damage and ARCCHIP, the first centre of excellence to establish a pan-European network on cultural heritage issues. Researchers involved in the projects will be available to talk to the press.
