Preparation for a report on means to improve the efficiency of biotechnology legislation

The European Commission has published a call for tenders for the completion of a report on improving the efficiency of biotechnology legislation.

In 2003, the Commission will submit a report to the European Parliament and the Council on the operation of the deliberate release and placing on the market of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

The main objective of this contract is to collect and prepare background information and data as a basis for this report, and specifically to assess the feasibility of various options to further improve the consistency and efficiency of the legislative framework as well as to evaluate different sorts of implications and consequences of the deliberate releases and placing on the market of GMOs.

A secondary objective of the project is to contribute to the present status and experience in the Member States, which will be achieved by working closely with the officials and experts from Member States.

The contract will be awarded on the basis of tenderers' outlined methodology, understanding of the call, and explanation of project management. The envisaged maximum budget for this call is 65,000 euro.
