Pre-emptive reaction

Tim Yeo, shadow health and education secretary, this week stood up in Parliament to denounce the higher education bill as "bad for students, bad for universities and bad for taxpayers". However, a couple of hours later, when the Diary asked him whether the bill contained any measures he could support, a shamefaced Mr Yeo admitted the bill was a bit long and detailed, and he hadn't yet read it fully.
