Portable laboratory

HOSPITALS, pharmaceutical firms and environment monitoring agencies could benefit from a new portable "micro-laboratory" being developed by researchers at Luton University.

The laboratory will enable on-the-spot analysis of the chemical constituents of fluids. The device, about the size of a shoebox, could be used to monitor patient metabolism and determine the severity of drug overdoses or heart attacks. It will also be suitable for analysing chemical spillages in rivers.
