Political failure?

六月 7, 1996

Your report on the "failure" of Charlotte Mason College (THES, May 31) would have benefited from looking at the possible motivation behind Ofsted's negative assessment.

The Government wishes to drive down teacher education in higher education and move to in-school "training" for those coming into the profession. How convenient then that a college specialising in teacher education is given the thumbs down by Ofsted inspectors.

Our union is concerned to see high standards in education, but we hope that these would always be judged by educational not political criteria.
