Police make city safer for students

四月 27, 2001

Sheffield police are spending £500,000 making life safer for the city's students with Operation Student Land. Areas of Sheffield with a high student population, such as Crookes and Broomhill, will be targeted by the project, which aims to reduce burglaries.

Gates will be erected to close off alleyways that can be used as getaways. Environmental improvements, such as repairing outbuildings and tidying dilapidated gardens and fences, will also take place.

Andrzej Nowakowski, president of Sheffield University's students' union, said: "Students are the target of burglary and all kinds of crime."
