Plymouth opens gambling centre

Britain's first university centre for research into gambling has opened at Plymouth University. The centre, part of the faculty of human sciences, will study gambling's social impact. To mark the opening, the centre's director, Sue Fisher, published research showing that almost 20 per cent of nearly 10,000 children surveyed had gambled on fruit machines and 13 per cent had bought National Lottery scratchcards in the past week.
