Paying Peter

四月 14, 1995

Delegates at the Association of Teachers and Lecturers annual conference could have looked a little closer for value for money from its general secretary Peter Smith. Figures just released for 1993 show that he earned Pounds 85,829, including benefits - making him Britain's third highest paid union chief. The same report reveals that Natfhe's former general secretary Geoff Woolf was on a total of Pounds 58,715 in his final year.

And Mr Smith earned twice the total for Association of University Teachers' boss David Triesman, on Pounds 34,617, including Pounds ,2 salary. An AUT spokesperson said that Mr Triesman is now in the range Pounds 36,624 to Pounds 47,633. Peanuts.
