Academics and other staff at Otago University have been issued with pre-emptive suspension notices 24 hours before they were due to walk out in protest at stalled pay negotiations. Unions are claiming a 4 per cent pay rise, backdated to February 1, while the university is offering 3 to 4.8 per cent from May 1.
