New members of the General Social Care Council , a non-departmental public body responsible for raising standards in social care, are: Tanzeem Ahmed , consultant researcher for Global Graduates; Christine Barton , an equal-opportunities consultant; Malcolm Clarke , a self-employed management and quality consultant; Susannah Hancock , chair of the Disability Alliance; Ann James , a member of the Commission for Health Improvement; Harry Marsh , chair of the Council for Disabled Children; Judith Weleminsky , a freelance management consultant; Helen Baker , a trustee with the Clive Project and Oxfordshire Group Homes; Terence Bamford , a consultant in social care; Lynda Deacon , a staff tutor at the Open University; Arthur Keefe , chair of the Training Organisation for the Personal Social Services, England; William McClimont , director of corporate affairs for Nestor Healthcare Group; Beverley Prevatt Goldstein , project manager at Becon (Black minority ethnic community organisations network); and June Thoburn , dean of the school of social work and psychosocial studies at the University of East Anglia.

The interim chair will be Baroness Pitkeathley , chair of the New Opportunities Fund.
