Three professors have joined the Royal Free and University College Medical School from Hammersmith Hospital. They are: Mark Pepys, an expert in amyloidosis, a disorder of protein metabolism, appointed head of the department of medicine; Philip Hawkins, who holds a Medical Research Council and Wellcome Trust grant jointly with Professor Pepys; and Humphrey Hodgson, a hepatologist.
Professors Hawkins and Hodgson both receive chairs in medicine.
Richard Strubel, past president and chief executive officer of Microdot Inc, has been appointed president and chief operating officer of the online education company UNext.com.
Howard Roe, deputy director of Southampton Oceanography Centre, has been appointed director of the centre.
Anthony Sargent, former head of arts and entertainment at Birmingham City Council, has been appointed general director of the Music Centre, Gateshead.
Ray Garry, consultant gynaecologist at South Tees Acute Hospital and St James's University Hospital Trust, has been appointed Simon professor of gynaeocology at the University of Teesside.
