Alumni to be proud of no 24: Peter Davis, the National Lottery regulator, described by one paper last year as a certainty for a knighthood at the end of his term of office, and by himself as "a careful, cautious chap" may have learnt those qualities of care and caution which have been so exercising the Public Accounts Committee and most of the national press while studying at Lincoln College, Oxford.
