Nottingham plan shortsighted

四月 11, 1997

From Robert Page

YOUR STORY adds public insult to private injury for those academic staff who have been deemed surplus to requirements at the University of Nottingham. In the case of my own department - the school of social studies - the fact that the reviews of "research performance" were not conducted in accordance with the principles of fairness and transparency calls into question the legitimacy of this exercise.

As a result of these hastily conducted assessments my department now stands to lose several highly respected scholars. No university can afford to jettison staff of this calibre. This shortsighted policy must be reversed.

Robert Page, Lecturer in social policy and administration, University of Nottingham
