A new consortium of 15 universities has formed to exploit the benefits of the BBC's planned move to Salford.

The universities, led by Salford University, have been given £500,000 by the three northern regional development agencies to set up the consortium and to undertake eight pilot projects.

The consortium, Northern Edge, will provide training and development services to media, creative and cultural industries in the north of England.

The other universities in the group are Bolton, Bradford, Central Lancashire, Edge Hill, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds, Liverpool John Moores, Liverpool Hope, Manchester Metropolitan, Northumbria, Teesside, Sunderland and St Martin's College.
